Materials Needed to Repair Steam Heating Boiler

  • Wrenches
  • Screwdrivers
  • Fine Wire
  • Hoses
Step 1 – Maintenance

You will find that the most important part of keeping your steam heating boiler working properly is to provide it with great maintenance. With providing regular maintenance, you will have much less repairs in the long run to worry about. It is a good idea to regularly check up on it and make sure that it is working properly so that you can catch any issues early on. The earlier that you catch a problem, the easier it is to fix.

Step 2 – No Heat

If there is not any heat that is coming out of your system, then you should take a look at the thermostat switches as well as the breaker and the fuses. Look to see if the thermostat switches are working properly. Check to see if there has been a tripped breaker or a busted fuse. Also take a look at the water level to make sure that it is at the right amount. You will find that this type of boiler is very similar to that of an oil furnace and a gas furnace.

Step 3 – Flush

You will find that if your boiler is not providing enough heat that it may need to be flushed. In order to successfully flush your boiler, you will need to first shut off the power as well as the automatic feed. You will need to then get hoses to the return drain and the boiler drain attached. Once they have been successfully attached, open up the boiler and drain it. You will need to allow the water to run out into a drain around the house. Shut the drains as soon as the tank is empty. From there, you will need to refill the boiler and drain it once more. You will need to do this until the gauge is completely clear.

Step 4 – Consistently Low Water Level

If your boiler has a water level that is consistently low, then you will need to keep an eye out for leaks. Look along the return lines as well as on the boiler itself. You will more than likely have to hire a professional to come out and fix this problem for you.

Step 5 – Noisy Pipes

If the pipes are making a lot of noise, you will need to make sure that the pitch of the returns slopes backwards and in the direction of the boiler. You may need to adjust the slant with the help of some new pipe hangers.
